Instrument Hire

As a service to those who wish to take up an instrument without the commitment and expense of purchase we offer a range of new and secondhand instruments available for low cost hire.

This service is designed to complement our tuition classes and is of particular value to budding harp players (a new harp can be a major expense), and also to younger fiddle students who may wish to start on a smaller instrument with the intention of moving up to another size as their hands grow stronger.

Instruments available include:

• Violin (All sizes)
• Viola
• Cello (All Sizes)
• Scottish Harp (Various)

We do not usually offer guitars as part of this scheme, but for those who are keen to learn we can usually find an instrument that may be borrowed whilst they decide which type of guitar to buy.
For health reasons we do not offer whistles, but these are available at very low cost to purchase.

Instruments are usually hired on a monthly basis, with prices starting at around £8.00 per month.

Our Hire scheme is NOT Hire Purchase, and all instruments remain the property of The Lutherie, but we offer a generous discount to those who wish to buy their hire or similar instrument.

This discount is typically one half of the hire costs paid for the instrument.
